How to Summarize Your Business

When writing a business summary, focus on the main products or services that your company offers. It is not necessary to give all of the details of your products or services. Focus on the most important aspects of your business, which will make your company stand out among other competitors. Whether your business is small or large, your business summary should be concise and easy to read. You should include the following information:

Ensure that the 250 to 300 words that you use to summarize your business flow logically. Bulleted points in a row help make sense of rambling sentences. If any points seem out of place, you can create separate callouts and include supplementary information to your business description. If you have more than 250 words, you can cut out as much as 80% of them. Once you’ve written a draft, scan it for any redundant information.

A good summary should include a message that is emotionally appealing to the reader. It should also target triggers that appeal to people on an emotional level. For example, if you offer organic or fair-trade products, you’ll need to include information about the environmental impact of your products. Your audience will appreciate these messages. They’ll also be able to differentiate your business from competitors. And they’ll be more likely to buy from your products if they feel good about the company.

A good summary should also include a mission statement. Your mission statement should describe the thrust of your business and should be no more than a couple of sentences. If you’re writing a business proposal, you’ll want to make sure to describe your product or service in one line. Investors will raise eyebrows if they don’t know about your competitors. Leaving these sections out can show a lack of research. This can also make you seem indecisive and unfocused.
